Mission 1 ph1_cb1.ogg Despite the failure of Operation Thresher, the GTA continues to gain ground in the Antares system. Command may be aiming for a push into Vasuda from Antares, so our job here in Vega is to distract the Vasudans from the Galatea's fleet preparations in Antares with a minor offensive of our own. If we can keep the PVD Temperance tied up with us in Vega, the Galatea might just have a chance of making it to Vasuda. ph1_cb2.ogg Our current plan is to move outward from our position around Vega IV, attacking PVN positions and securing sites of strategic importance. Ideally, we will gain complete control of the Deneb and Capella jump nodes, sealing the Temperance in Vega and potentially opening a second front in Deneb. ph1_cb3.ogg Finally, I have some good news direct from the Galatea. You all recall the shame and disappointment we felt when we learned that Lt. McCarthy, a GTA officer assigned to duties in Antares, betrayed the Alliance and everything we stand for when he and his subordinates defected to the PVN. Yesterday, however, pilots from the Galatea captured the traitor McCarthy and the Avenger plans he was passing on to the Vasudans. We can now rest easy, knowing that McCarthy and his fellow renegades are in custody. ph1_b1.ogg Sigma wing, your mission for today is simple - the destruction of the PVC Chariot. The Chariot is currently maintaining orbit around Vega III. So long as the Chariot remains in place, so Vega III remains in PVN control. ph1_b2.ogg Sigma will fly Athena fighter-bombers while Kappa provides cover in Apollo superiority fighters. The mission objective is to destroy the Chariot and all other Vasudan forces defending Vega III. The Chariot should only be lightly defended, as Vega III is a planet of minimal importance. However, by taking control of this planet, we will be in a position to attack Vega II and the PVN position around it. ph_des.ogg Dereliction of duty is a serious offence, pilot. When you are given a mission to carry out, you follow your orders to the letter, with no exceptions. Your hearing is scheduled for 0700. Dismissed. ph1_db1.ogg Good work destroying the PVC Chariot. Vega III is now undefended and ripe for the taking. Units from 3rd Fleet should move to secure Vega III sometime tomorrow morning. This should hopefully pave the way for an assault on Vega II later this week. ph1_db2.ogg Your failure to destroy the Chariot is an embarassment, pilot. The Vasudan cruiser was alone and lightly defended, with little to no support - and yet you still allowed it to get away! Unacceptable, pilot. Mission 2 ph2_b1.ogg Command has ordered the GTC Salieri to Vega III, in order to prevent the Vasudans from reclaiming the position you eliminated yesterday. ph2_b2.ogg Sporadic Vasudan fighter patrols have been spotted around Vega III since the destruction of the Chariot in your last operation. These fighter wings will undoubtedly converge on the Salieri's position as soon as the cruiser arrives in position. Sigma, your task is to defend the Salieri from attack until relieved of your post. ph2_db1.ogg Although the Vasudan assault was fierce, you were more than capable of defending the Salieri from destruction. Without the Salieri, Vega III is back in Vasudan hands, and as a result your career is over. ph2_db2.ogg Welcome back, pilot. According to your flight logs, you were lucky to get out of that engagement alive. Sadly, the Salieri wasn't so lucky. Attacked by what appears to be a foe with superior technology and resources, she never stood a chance. Similar reports of encounters with these 'Unknowns' are coming in across all of Vega, and throughout the rest of Terran space as well. So far, we have no idea where these ships come from or what their intentions are. GTA Command hasn't ruled anything out as of yet. Mission 3 ph3_cb1.ogg Our history has just changed forever. Multiple ships in several systems across Terran space have recorded encounters with ships of indeterminate origin and with unclear goals. A third side has entered the Terran-Vasudan War. ph3_cb2.ogg This new force, tentatively dubbed the 'Unknowns' pending further communication with GTA Command, has displayed unremitting hostility to all Terran ships and vessels. Their technology is far in advance of our own, and their fighters utilise shields that are impervious to our attacks. We have yet to establish a clear sensor lock on any one of their fightercraft or to identify their point of origin. In light of these recent attacks, both in Vega and elsewhere, Admiral Collins has decided to withdraw the majority of 3rd Fleet from the Vega system. GTA forces are already amassing at the Beta Aquilae jump node. ph3_cb3.ogg tanding orders for all GTA pilots are to avoid any engagement with the Unknowns. We are completely outmatched by these ships and any battles we fight are doomed to fail. Our only option is to conserve casualties and limit the damage. This order also applies to combat with the Vasudans. Until the threat posed by the Unknowns and their relationship to the PVE can be completely ascertained, we will allow none of our pilots to take unnecessary risks. ph3_b1.ogg Intelligence is in desperate need of footage of these Unknowns. So far, we know next to nothing about these mysterious ships and their even more mysterious technology. We need some observational data on the Unknowns' ships before we can even hope to begin to reverse-engineer their weapons- and electronics-tech. ph3_b2.ogg Intelligence has positive identification of Unknown ships at a PVN cargo and refueling depot. If you launch now, you should reach the base in time to conduct a close-range recon of the Unknown action. Any and all data you can acquire regarding the Unknowns would be of great benefit to the GTA. Just remember to keep your distance and to avoid engaging either the Vasudans or the Unknowns. Good luck, Sigma. ph3_db1.ogg Excellent work acquiring information on the Unknowns, Sigma. The data you gathered from the Vasudan depot confirms that the Unknowns are a new, previously undiscovered spacefaring species. The Amadeus' science team are working round the clock on analysing the weapon traces found on the PVC Penitence. Excerpts from the footage you gathered have been passed on to GTA Command. It is somewhat reassuring that the Unknowns are as hostile to the Vasudans as they are to us. The possibility of the Unknowns and the PVN working together against us was almost too terrible to imagine. Thankfully, that is not the case. The evacuation of Vega continues apace. The Admiral's current plan is to leave the Amadeus and a small escort in Vega to maintain a GTA presence in the system while the rest of the fleet retreats to Beta Aquilae. The latest news from Command suggests that the Avenger cannon is being modified to penetrate the Unknowns' shields, and as such the majority of 3rd Fleet will need to undergo extensive refittings only possible in a system like Beta Aquilae. Keep on your toes, pilots. We may need you again in a hurry. Mission 4 ph4_b1.ogg At 0542 hours today, we intercepted a distress call from the PVD Temperance. ph4_b2.ogg The Temperance came under attack from Unknown fighters. Although the Unknown presence was small, it was enough to force the Temperance to flee. ph4_b3.ogg According to the transmission, the Temperance is suffering a reactor breach and undergoing a major systems failure. The ship's CO has ordered a full evacuation of the vessel. ph4_b4.ogg It is highly likely that the Unknowns will track the Temperance to its current location and interfere with the evacuation process. In its extremely vulnerable state, the Temperance will be unable to defend itself, and thousands of lives could be lost. ph4_b5.ogg Admiral Collins has decided to countermand his previous orders and send GTA forces to assist the Vasudan evacuation. Although there is little we can do to stop the Unknowns outright, we cannot allow them to slaughter innocent lives in this manner, even if they are soldiers for the PVN. At the very least, we can distract the Unknowns long enough for the Temperance's crew to escape. We do not know what the Vasudan reaction to our intervention will be. For the duration of this operation, however, and unless ordered otherwise by Command, consider all Vasudan forces friendly. This could change at any moment though, Sigma, so keep on your toes. ph4_db1.ogg Congratulations on coming back alive. Very few pilots have survived multiple engagements with the Unknowns since their arrival in the war. ph4_db2.ogg It is unfortunate that the vast majority of the Temperance's crew died in the evacuation. This incident will undoubtedly strain Terran-Vasudan relations, should a ceasefire come to pass. Still, no doubt you did the best you could. ph4_db3.ogg A considerable percentage of the Temperance's crew survived the Unknown assault, which is more than we could have hoped for. ph4_db4.ogg Excellent job protecting the crew of the Temperance during the evacuation. The Vasudan CO has asked me to communicate his thanks to you for your escort of his men. Your superb intercept skills prevented the evacuation of the destroyer from turning into a massacre. Well done. ph4_db5.ogg Further information has recently come in from GTA Command regarding the Unknown incursion into our systems. Expect a special briefing on the Unknown threat by tomorrow at the latest. With much of 3rd Fleet either in Beta Aquilae or preparing to leave, it looks like the worst is over. Pending further developments by R&D with regards to Unknown shielding and sensor technology, the most we can do is wait. Get some rest, pilot.
